The 800 models of Bowers & Wilkins are known to be the brand’s flagship range. But the speakers were not for everyone. But, the good news is that the brand has just unveiled the third generation of the 700 series.

This range borrows a lot of things from the flagship 800 range. However, the offerings do not cost as much as the flagship models do.

So, what does the 700 series of Bowers & Wilkins have? To start with, you have three-floor stander speakers.

Then, there are two center channel speakers. And finally, there are three stand mounts. So, you could say that the 700 series consists of eight different models.

According to the British brand, the 700 third gen range has been reworked since the last update, which was in 2017. The series now features more technology than ever.

And it borrows a lot of things that the 800 series of Bowers & Wilkins is known for. That includes the Diamond technology.

Now, although the brand is integrating high-end technologies into the third generation of the 700 series, the price is surprisingly low for the models!

Bowers & Wilkins have redesigned the 700 S3 series with a slimmer cabinet. The models have a subtle curve on the front baffle as well.

This curve is there to reduce diffraction. So, you should end up getting less of the effects that come from the speaker cabinet. Instead, you will get more of the music that the speakers are playing.

The design also has external ‘pods,’ which are the visual and technical nod from the 800 series Diamond. They further aid the diffraction reduction process.

And on half of the 700 S3 models, you will find the iconic Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top arrangement. This half includes the 703 S3, 702 S3, 705 S3, and the HTM71 S3. This arrangement has a carbon dome tweeter on top.

On that note, the tweeter-on-top design is basically from a solid block of aluminum. And Bowers & Wilkins have revised the design for the 700 S3 series.

The enclosure is now lengthened to reduce distortion and offer a cleaner overall performance. Also, the enclosure’s design now isolates the tweeter on the top from the speakers’ cabinet.

What about the rest of the models? They have the tweeters in the traditional place, which is on the inside of the cabinet.

But that does not mean that the brand has neglected the other models. They now feature an elongated tube-loading system, which aims to significantly minimize distortions.
