If you have any experience with the horn speakers from Avantgarde Acoustic, you might already know how good they are.
For example, most audio enthusiasts think of the Duo XD as reference speakers. And when it comes to reviewers, they compare the sound of the other horn speakers with the performance of the Duo XD.
Well, Avantgarde Acoustic has just unveiled the 3rd Generation of its Duo horn loudspeakers. Currently, the 3rd lineup consists of the Duo GT and Duo SD.
And it seems like the German HiFi brand has outdone itself with these two horn speakers. First, let’s talk about the Avantgarde Acoustic Duo GT.
According to the HiFi brand, this horn speaker is “the best Duo we have ever developed.” And it seems like they are not wrong in that regard.
The Duo GT (GT stands for Grande Twin) is the 3rd evolutionary stage of a horn system, and it’s all about massive improvements.
On that note, the horn system of Avantgarde Acoustic has been in the brand’s portfolio since 1993. And throughout the years, the HiFi brand significantly improved with each iteration.
But this time, the jump seems to be pretty high. The Duo GT boasts the proven spherical horn architecture of the Avantgarde Acoustic.
That, combined with the improved XM2 midrange driver, makes the Duo GT stand pretty high in terms of performance.
There is a new XT3 reference super tweeter. The Avantgarde Acoustic Duo GT took this tweeter from the Trio. All the bass is handled by the XB12 bass drivers.
Also, there is a huge voice coil, which is from Spacehorn. That was developed by the HiFi brand to complement the new Trio G3.
But the most important fact is that the Duo GT has a modular and upgradable G3 crossover. You also have a 3rd Gen PolarisationPlus circuitry, NatureCapAA, and an optional Itron Activ Power Module with 1000-watt power output. All of these make the specification sheet of the Duo GT pretty rich.
Secondly, there is the Duo SD. The HiFi brand has designed it as a new entryway to the world of Duo sound for users. It boasts a single bass driver.
However, the outer dimensions of the Duo SD as been slightly minimized. But that’s not a bad thing. According to Holger, “reduction does not always mean just leaving out. Reduction often means creating awareness for the essential”.
Other than that, Avantgarde Acoustic Duo SD comes with mid horns and the same-sized spherical tweeter found in the GT. However, weighs 94 KG and stands 155 cm tall. In comparison, the GT weighs 108.5 KG and stands 173 cm tall.
