Wharfedale Aura series loudspeakers made a grand entry, promising to deliver high-quality audio at an affordable price tag. At the core, the series is born out of the Elysian development project of Wharfedale.
That automatically means that the new series will offer high-quality engineering, regardless of how low the price point of the units is.
For those wondering, Wharfedale got into a pretty ambitious R&D project back in 2016. This project aims to offer upscale designs that would eventually surpass the classic entry-level Diamond speakers.
The project then led to the mid-level EVO 4 Series and Elysian Series. Wharfedale released both series three years later after embarking on the ambitious R&D project.
On that note, both the EVO and Elysian speakers have some similar technical features. That includes the AMT treble drivers, advanced cabinet engineering, Slot-Loaded Profiled Port, and three-way configurations.
Now emerging from the Elysian project, the Wharfedale Aura series comes with a range of models that are priced above the EVO4 series. However, the price points of these offerings are below the flagship Elysian units.
The series comes with two stand-mount models, two center speakers for home cinema systems, and two floorstanders. And the driver config is similar to the EVO4 speakers. That is, the new Wharfedale Aura series loudspeakers come with dedicated mid-range units and AMT treble drivers.
However, compared to the EVO4 series, the new Wharfedale Aura speakers are slightly larger. But even with a large form factor, Wharfedale has managed to keep the speakers compact.
To be exact, the new units are more compact than the Elysian models. Speaking of which, the Wharfedale Aura speakers share some technical elements with the Elysian models.
That includes the cabinets, crossover networks, and cabinets. But among all, the AMT tweeter has to be one of the biggest standouts.
Unlike the traditional dome tweeters, it’s a high-frequency transducer that doesn’t move forward or backward. As the transducer doesn’t move like a piston, it can offer “exceptional transient response and clarity of treble detail.”
In the new Wharfedale Aura series, the Wharfedale has improved the AMT unit to extend the response to a whopping 36kHz. And the significant part is that it can offer a smooth and linear response to 22kHz.
Additionally, the Aura series comes with drive units that are descendants of the Elysian drivers. They come with cones of woven glass fiber material.
Also, they boast low-distortion motor systems, which offer accurate transient responses. Moreover, Wharfedale has fine-tuned the crossover networks to make sure there’s a seamless blend between the drivers.
