Pre-orders for the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable have started. And if you are caught up with the official announcement, it’s the successor to the first-gen Freestyle projector from Samsung.
But as a proper successor, the Gen 2 model has a lot of similarities to the predecessor. At least, on paper, you will find a lot of resemblance with last year’s model. Not to mention, even the design and aesthetics of the two are pretty much the same.
However, the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable does come with some proper upgrades. Among them, one of the key highlights of the new projector is the gamer-centric features.
When it comes to the basics, the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable is an extremely versatile projector.
It comes with a compact form factor, features a built-in stand, and can project images up to 100 inches away on any surface.
The Gen 2 model also comes with the adorable shape of the original, which is a cylindrical main body, letting you easily set the projector in any setup. For the podium-style base, you can effortlessly angle it and point it to any wall or ceiling.
What’s more important is that the Freestyle Gen 2 Portable projector can deliver a full 1920 x 1080 resolution. It also comes with support for HLG and HDR10+ formats.
Of course, the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable is a little light in terms of ports. The micro HDMI port is the only option to connect a media streaming device or a gaming console.
But the good news is that the port has support for ARC, letting you hook the projector up to external sound devices without any hassles. Also, you can pair other devices with the built-in Bluetooth feature.
On that note, as the FreeStyle Gen 2 features a built-in speaker, you mightn’t even need to hook up external speakers to it. This built-in speaker can deliver an immersive 360-degree audio.
To compensate for the lack of connectivity ports, the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable has a full Tizen operating system. It’s the operating system found in the flagship TV models of Samsung.
Thanks to that, you can have limitless access to all your favorite streaming platforms. That includes Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, and others.
But what about the gaming-centric features? Well, that makes the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable stand out from the crowd.
The projector comes with the Xbox app, allowing you to play games on the big screen without needing an Xbox.
For gamers who are looking for more options, the Samsung Gaming Hub on the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 Portable has Amazon Luna, Nvidia GeForce Now, Anstream Arcade, Blacknut, and Utomik.
