Shure has released a wireless version of the SE846 earphones with the RMCE-BT1 Bluetooth cable. The SE846 Bluetooth version (see SE846-BT1) really is a match made in heaven and in my opinion, it’s long overdue.

It’s the same progression musicians went through when live instruments started to go wireless back in the ’80s and ’90s. In the old days, live musicians would play live music connected to their amps with 1/4 inch jack cables. Then came wireless belt packs for playing guitar players, bass players etc without the wires. It was awesome but it took a long time for companies (like Shure) to perfect it so the signal didn’t drop etc.

The first version of the RMCE Bluetooth cable from Shure was a little hit and miss with quite a few warranty returns coming back in the door. It seems if it worked it worked well but if it didn’t, it didn’t.

Shure seems to have taken on the learnings from the first model and fixed any issues since the first version of the MMCX RMCE-BT1 Bluetooth cable and then improved things again with the RMCE-BT2. They have now also started to bundle their other IEM / earphones with this cable, and only this cable, as an option.

They started softly when they launched the first version of the RMCE and only released it as an option with the SE215 (CL and BK models). Then, with the second version of this cable out, the RMCE-BT1, they seem to have decided they have enough confidence to include the RMCE-BT1 with their high-end range of earphones and IEMs including, and especially, the SE846-CL and SE846-BK and SE846-BL. That shows belief in the cable, you don’t sell expensive earphones with a cable your unsure about.

They offer the RMCE-BT1 bundled with all the different SE846 model options:

  • SE846-CL+BT1 – Clear
  • SE846-K+BT1 – Black
  • SE846-BNZ+BT1 – Bronze
  • SE846-BLU+BT1 – Blue

To be clear the RMCE-BT2 Bluetooth cable is a separate upgrade option currently.

The RMCE-BT1 (and RMCE-BT2) cable includes:

  • Bluetooth 4.1 (Bluetooth 5 on the RMCE-BT2)
  • Up to 8 hours battery life (10 hours on the RMCE-BT2)
  • 30 feet range or 10 meters
  • Detachable
  • Volume Controls
  • Micro USB charger in the kit
  • Built-in microphone for calls and smartphone voice controls
