Getting an immersive audio system in the car is a dream that many motorists and audio enthusiasts have been chasing after. Well, among all the car brands out there, it seems like Mercedes-Benz is the one that has been taking notes regarding the matter.
Yes, you just read that right! Apple Spatial Audio is coming for the first time in cars. Mercedes-Benz announced the partnership with the official launch of the EQE SUV.
The four-wheeler is basically a multi-purpose variant for the EQE executive saloon. And it is the first-ever all-electric SUV from the brand. However, the main highlight of the new SUV is that it has Apple Spatial Audio.
That said, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is not the only one that will get the immersive-sound treatment. The brand announced that the most premium vehicles will also have the feature.
That includes the SL, EQS SUV, EQE, AMG EQE SUV, S-Class, and S-Class Maybach. However, that is not the end of good news for audio enthusiasts. The Universal Music Group is now enabling the artists to get an “approved in a Mercedes-Benz” standard.
They can pass the standard when they finalize the overall audio quality tracks in a Mercedes-Benz.
That means you will hear the songs just like how the artist intended. Nonetheless, the tech that enables the Spatial Audio is pretty special too.
The 4D sound system comes with 31 speakers, which include four near-ear speakers in the front seats, six 3D speakers above, and eight transducers that will spread the sound throughout the seats.
Furthermore, there are two amplifiers and an 18.5-litre subwoofer. With a total of 1750 watts of power rating, Mercedes-Benz aims to offer “studio-quality sound better than in any concert hall.”
But, why are all these audio upgrades really necessary for a car? According to data, more than 70 percent of consumers listen to music in their car than anywhere else.
And in terms of Spatial Audio, a sealed environment makes much more sense than an open space. So, yes, Mercedes has gone down the right path with all these audio upgrades.
What about the unique head-tracking enhancement of Apple? There is no word regarding it being present in the system. However, you can get to know more about it when the cars go through testers and reviewers.
However, these Mercedes-Benz cars are the first non-Apple products that have native support for Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.
